richest person in China and the second richest person in Asia and a retired
Chinese business magnate, investor, politician and philanthropist. He's is the
co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, a multinational

retire from Alibaba and work effectively in a year, with Daniel Zhang making

Early life and education:
Ma was born on September 10, 1964 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang,
China. He began studying English at an early age by interacting with English
speakers at Hangzhou International Hotel. He would travel 70 miles on his
bicycle to give tours to the tourists of the area to practice his English for
nine years. He became a pen pulse with one of the foreigners who nicknamed him
"Jack" because he found it difficult to pronounce his Chinese name.
Later in her youth, Ma struggled at the college she
attended. The Chinese entrance exam is only held once a year and Ma takes four
years to pass. Ma attended the Hangzhou Teachers Institute (currently known as
Hangzhou Normal University) and graduated in 1988 with a BA in English. In
school, Ma was the head of the student council. After graduation, he became a
lecturer in English and International Business at Hangzhou Diazi University. He
applied to Harvard Business School (HBS) ten times and was rejected.

Foundation, a philanthropic organization focused on improving education, the
